Placenta Encapsulation

What is a placenta?

Your placenta is a remarkable organ that grows alongside your baby during pregnancy. It provides oxygen and nutrients to your developing fetus and produces hormones that help maintain a healthy pregnancy. Essentially, the placenta acts as a vital filtration system for both you and your baby.

There are many different beliefs and misconceptions about consuming the placenta after birth. Whatever your perspective, I’m here to support you in making the choice that feels right for you.

Some evidence suggests that consuming your placenta during the postpartum period may offer benefits such as reducing bleeding after birth and helping balance hormones.

There are several ways to consume your placenta—such as encapsulating it, making a tincture, or even eating a small piece raw right after birth to help reduce bleeding.

If you’re considering placenta consumption or want to learn more about its potential benefits, I’m here to support you through your decision.

Potential benefits of placenta consumption include:

  • Improved milk production

  • Enhanced mood

  • Increased energy

  • Hormone balance

  • Reduced postpartum bleeding

  • Improved iron levels

Considerations to keep in mind:

  • If you test positive for Group B strep, consuming your placenta could be harmful.

  • If you have any infections or diseases, placenta consumption may pose risks to you or your baby.

Keep in mind:

While placenta consumption may provide some benefits, a holistic approach to postpartum care is essential. Supporting your mind, body, and spirit through staying active, getting adequate rest, asking for help, hiring a postpartum doula, continuing prenatal vitamins, and eating nutrient-rich foods will help you achieve the best possible recovery. When combined with placenta consumption, these actions can support a faster, happier postpartum journey.
